Thursday 21 September - Afternoon sessions

Select one of the following sessions.

Option 1
Alexander von Humboldt Challenge - London 'Walking Trail'. Meet outside the Geography Department Office – you will be split into groups and given a map, an answer sheet and clues to follow. Each group must collect evidence that they have visited all sites. For this activity, students should ensure they bring a pen, wear suitable clothing and footwear and consider bringing a digital camera. The Alexander von Humboldt Challenge winners will have their photo taken with the cup and will feature on the website.

Option 2
Lab Session – Meet the Lab Manager, Dr Benjamin Gridley for an introduction to the John B Thornes Laboratory. Get a feel for the lab and take part in some experiments. Meet outside John. B. Thornes Lab – S-2.13 (2nd Basement, Strand Building). This session will be of particular interest to BSc Geography students, or to those who have a multi-disciplinary interest in Geography. This session will be capped at 20 students per session, but will run several times this afternoon.

Option 3
Celebrity Geographies – K-1.14 (Basement, King's Building)
Do you know any celebrities who have campaigned for climate change? What has Brad Pitt got to do with natural disasters? Why did One Direction visit Ghana? Come and test your knowledge in this fun, interactive session. The session will look at the ways that celebrities become spokespeople for the global issues you will study during your degree. Working in teams with other new undergraduate students, you will race to match famous faces with geographic issues, with prizes to be won for the best groups.
