SMI and Physical Health Checks Training for staff and volunteers in Bradford, Airedale Wharfedale and Craven (UK)

About this event

People living with severe mental illness (SMI, e.g. bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis) face significant health inequalities in terms of their physical health.

The aim of this session is to explore these inequalities, and consider how organisations in Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven can support people and contribute to reducing these inequalities. This includes our individual and collective role.

We will discuss serious mental illnesses- the causes, symptoms and the challenges those living with a serious mental illness face.

We will discuss the link between physical and mental health - the physical health conditions people living with a SMI may be more susceptible to.

We will also discuss physical health checks - the benefits, importance, process, and purpose of physical health checks for people with SMI; think about how we can explain these to people with SMI to attend their check and subsequent interventions; and explore ways to engage with people with SMI, including groups who are under-represented.

The training is free to attend and is open to staff working within Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven, supporting clients with their mental health.

Multiple dates have been uploaded with further dates coming soon - attending one session is sufficient!
