About this event

Following public consultation in July 2019, the Government announced that it would bring forward legislation introducing a new Serious Violence Duty on a range of specified authorities. This will ensure relevant services work together to share information and allow them to target their interventions, where possible through existing partnership structures, to prevent and reduce serious violence within their local communities. The Duty is a key part of the Government’s programme of work to prevent and reduce serious violence: taking a multi-agency approach to understand the causes and consequences of serious violence, focusing on prevention and early intervention, and informed by evidence. The Serious Violence Duty commenced on 31st January 2023.

The Serious Violence Duty workshops explore the implications of the Duty and how partnerships are working together across the region towards development, publication and dissemination of their strategies to prevent and reduce serious violence.
