AService of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Sir Alan Bedford Urwick KCVO, CMG, KStJ will take place in St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey on Thursday, 19th October 2017 at Noon.

Sir Alan Bedford Urwick was born on May 2, 1930, and educated at Dragon School in Oxford, Rugby School, and New College, Oxford.

He joined the British diplomatic service in 1952 and undertook tours of duty in Western Europe, the Middle East, Moscow, and Washington, D.C. Alan also served as the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Jordan (1979–1984), Egypt (1985–1987), as well as High Commissioner to Canada (1987–1989). Sir Alan left the diplomatic service in 1989 and then served as Serjeant-at-Arms of the House of Commons until his retirement in 1995.

To apply for free tickets online, click on REGISTER above, choosing then the category you fall into. Having done so, choose the number of tickets you would like (up to 4), then click on CHECKOUT - you will then be asked to leave your details and those of any guests attending with you on the next screen. Your tickets will then be e-mailed to you closer to the date of the service. A list of those applying will be circulated to the family beforehand.

When applying for tickets you will be asked to select one of three options: Family, Parliamentary Members or General Admission. Parliamentary Staff wishing to attend should apply please in the General Admission category.

Tickets are also available by post: if you wish to apply by this method, enclose a stamped addressed envelope to Mr M Arnoldi, Room 19, The Chapter Office, 20 Dean's Yard, London SW1P 3PA, and tickets will be sent to you ten days before the service.

Doors will open at 11.20 am and members of the congregation are requested to be seated by 11.45 am.


FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Public transport is advised. The nearest underground stations are Westminster and St James' Park.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket(s) to the event? Yes, please bring tickets for each person attending.

What is the dress code? Lounge suit or day dress is advised. It is not necessary to wear black as this will be a celebration of Sir Alan's life.

What time do the doors open? 11.20 am.

Can I bring a guest? Yes, you can bring up to three guests with you. Please just register your details and the details of any guests attending with you.

How long will the Service last? The Service will last an hour.

What if I have special needs? The church has easy ramped access for those in wheelchairs or with walking aids.
