Description

A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of The Rt Hon Lord Mayhew of Twysden PC, QC, DL will take place at Noon on Thursday 2nd March 2017 at 12 Noon.

A former Conservative cabinet minister, Lord Patrick Mayhew was for 23 years the Member of Parliament for Tunbridge Wells. In government, he served as Junior Minister, then as Attorney General and Northern Ireland Secretary during critical moments for both posts. He died in June 2016, aged 86, having lived with cancer and Parkinson's Disease for several years.

Lord Mayhew of Twysden worked hard for peace in Northern Ireland. He was a key figure in the December 1993 Downing Street Declaration, formulated by then prime minister John Major and then Irish Taoiseach, Albert Reynolds which led to the IRA ceasefire the following September.
