SES Explorer Series: My Journey to Ground Zero
Overview
Dr Sam Allen is a specialist in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine who has worked at the frontlines of some of the world's most critical health crises, including AIDS, Ebola, and Zika outbreaks. His career began with leprosy research in the Belgian Congo, followed by establishing a hospital in Ghana. His medical expeditions have taken him to remote communities from the Kalahari to the Amazon, bringing healthcare to those beyond the reach of conventional medical systems.
Sam is Immediate Past Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow and continues to work in infectious disease hotspots worldwide.
Join us to hear Sam take you on an immersive journey through high-consequence infectious diseases and sudden-onset disasters, revealing what it means to practice medicine at the sharp end of global health emergencies.
