SES Explorer Series: Three Men in a Boat

By Scientific Exploration Society

Overview

JOIN US to hear The Maclean Brothers give a candid account of their non-stop, unsupported Pacific row for safe drinking water.

The Maclean brothers – Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan – are three Scottish adventurers whose record-breaking ocean rows have raised over £1 million for clean-water projects. In 2019/20 they became the fastest trio to row the Atlantic (3,000+ miles in 35 days), and in 2025 they became the first team to row non-stop and row unsupported from South America to Australia – 9,750 miles in 139 days – setting a new world record and helping bring safe drinking water to more than 40,000 people. They share practical lessons on resilience, teamwork and purpose from ordinary people achieving extraordinary goals.

Three Brothers in a Boat is a candid, high-energy account of a 9,750-mile, non-stop Pacific row – from Lima to Cairns – and what it taught three brothers about mindset, teamwork and performing under pressure. From sleep-deprived decision-making and micro-goals to action over hesitation, routines and persevering through storms (including a man-overboard). The talk highlights how a search for purpose can turn survival into transformation.
