Set in Stone? The Politics of Curating the Life of Emily Hobhouse in Contemporary South Africa

The second event in the Leeds Cultural Conversations series 2019/20.

Presented by Dr Helen Dampier (Leeds Beckett University) and Dr Rebecca Gill (University of Huddersfield)

Helen Dampier and Rebecca Gill reflect on the challenges they have faced in curating an exhibition on Emily Hobhouse's life and legacy in contemporary South Africa. They consider their attempts to grapple with Hobhouse's place in the racial politics of South Africa at a highly charged moment in the politics of commemoration.

Date: 6 November 2019

Time: 12:30 - 13:30

Venue: Cohen Room, Leeds Town Hall, Leeds, LS1 3AD
