About this event

SETsquared Workshop: Why scrutiny is crucial to innovation’s success

Facilitator: Felicity Cowie, The Media Relations Coach

This workshop is for early-stage business founders (and their people) who want to get super-clear and concise about their innovations, so they stand up to the scrutiny of investors and journalists/influencers. It is particularly useful for innovations which are so pioneering they may be difficult to put into words.

For those contemplating starting or pivoting a business, the workshop is also a rapid and efficient way to test out an idea.

In this workshop you will learn how to scrutinise and articulate exactly what your business offers, using proven tools from a former investigative journalist turned media relations coach.

You will identify, break down and scrutinise what you do. Then start to put all of this back together in around 50 words which will ultimately attract engagement and investment.

The workshop is run by Felicity Cowie who has helped some of the world’s leading organisations gain profile and extensive news coverage for their ground-breaking work. Having been pitched at least 100,000 story ideas as an award-winning former journalist she has an insider’s view on what information breaks through and why and how to create it.

Agenda:

• The story so far – where to find your best sources of information

• How to break things down using a simple quadrant – create the beginning and ending of your story in MINUTES then get proven tactics to rapidly draft out the rest

• Scrutinise it!

• Scrutiny not mutiny – how to check if your own brain (and your co-founder/team) are all on the same page

• What to do about the holes and conflicts in your emerging 50-word foundation story – holding statements and key lines to take

• Using your 50 words to attract engagement and investment – investor pitch deck and media examples

• Final Q+A (with questions welcomed throughout the session)

Attendees leave with tools and tactics to scrutinise what they do and how to describe it to their mums! And other significant humans to grow their business.
