About this event

Workshop aim: To enable health and other self-care practitioners, as well as relevant services, to gain greater insight and confidence in setting up and facilitating sustainable community-based self-care support for people with pain in Pain Cafés.

This online workshop will enable participants to apply shared knowledge and experience from those running such support systems/services to local settings across the UK through discussion-based learning, using examples, building relevant skills and sharing resources.

Objectives:

  • Discover more about the realistic range of community options possible and the rationale for ongoing support for people with pain / long health conditions.
  • Understand processes to establish community self-care options/cafes; practical aspects, what, where, when, with whom, how long etc.
  • Explore the benefits of this community-based support for self-care and how to record /track this evidence.
  • Assess the health impact of such community support groups/cafes and measure health outcome change for both the individual and wider community of people with pain.
  • Sharing resources and networks to empower plans and actions and avoid the “reinvent the wheel" trap.

Recognising that local factors affect the setting up of such groups, the workshop will include shared discussion, case studies, and practical aspects on funding.

Workshop trainers: This practical workshop is co-designed and co-delivered by Health Care Practitioners and lived experience of pain trainers from Live Well with Pain Team, who run “Pain Café” type self-care support.
