Seven Steps to Successfully Managing Hazards in Collections
Trainer: Larry Carr
Suitable for: Staff, trustees and volunteers responsible for managing collections
Identifying hazards in collections, assessing them, and managing their risks doesn’t have to be complicated. This online safety training will navigate participants through a series of seven steps to successfully managing hazards in their collections.
From assigning responsibilities, to identifying and prioritising areas of concern, to assessing the risks, to writing an action plan and implementing it, to recording what has been done, and reviewing the risks. Participants will learn about a sustained and structured approach to the management of hazards in collections.
Please note, this session is about procedures to successfully manage hazards in collections and is not hazard recognition and awareness training.
Before the session:
- It would be useful for participants to come with some prior knowledge of hazards in museum collections. The Hazards in Collections etool is a useful resource to look at beforehand.
About the trainer:
Larry Carr is one of the UK’s authorities in the subject of health hazards found in object collections. He is a health and safety professional with more than a decade of experience in the museums sector including the Science Museum, British Museum and other UK National Museums.
