Discover the joy of sewing and create your own handmade Japanese-style kimono — no experience needed!

This hands-on, friendly course is designed for absolute beginners. Over 4 weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of sewing while making a beautiful, wearable kimono and matching belt. You’ll be guided step-by-step in a relaxed classroom environment.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to confidently operate a sewing machine
  • Essential sewing terminology and tools
  • How to take accurate body measurements
  • How to read and draft a simple kimono pattern
  • How to cut fabric properly and handle seam allowances
  • Techniques for sewing straight lines, joining panels, and finishing seams
  • How to attach sleeves, collars, and hems
  • Making and styling an obi-style waist belt

By the end of the course, you’ll take home your own handmade kimono and the skills to begin your own sewing journey.

Course Schedule

Week 1: Getting Started

  • Learn to use the sewing machine
  • Practice stitching and understand fabric types

Week 2: Drafting & Cutting

  • Take measurements
  • Draft and cut a beginner-friendly kimono pattern

Week 3: Assembling Your Kimono

  • Sew the main body and attach sleeves
  • Practice pressing and neat seam finishing

Week 4: Finishing & Belt Making

  • Attach collar and hem
  • Sew an obi belt
  • Final try-on and celebration!
