Description

Sewa is a universal concept, which involves performing an act of kindness without expectation of reward. It is performed selflessly and without ulterior motive.

UTHO is Organising charity event in association with Sewa Day (http://www.sewaday.org) in encouraging more people from Telugu and Indian communities to come forward and donate blood by registering as blood donors.

Key Facts

  • Around 14% of the population of England are black or South Asian but less than 3% of people who have given blood in the last twelve months are from these communities.
  • 25% of Asians are blood group B, only 9% of West Europeans share this group – More Asian donors are needed to help boost this blood group.
  • 6,000 units per day are needed to meet hospital demand
  • 6% of blood donated was used to treat blood loss after childbirth

Who can give blood

  • If you fit and healthy
  • Weigh over 7 stone 12 lbs or 50kg
  • Are you aged between 17 and 66 (or 70 if you have given blood before)
  • Men can give blood every 12 weeks and women can give blood every 16 weeks.
  • If you have travelled to India recently, you MAY NEED to wait for 6 months before you can give blood
