The 7th annual SewBrum meet-up is taking place online!

About this Event

♥ What? ♥

SewBrum is a free-to-attend meet-up of people who love to sew in Birmingham, UK, which is now in its seventh year.

Since it isn't currently possible to meet in person, SewBrum is moving online.

Full details will be shared with registered attendees, but the day will include:

  • Video messages & discount codes from local sewing businesses & textile artists;
  • A live bargello stitch pincushion workshop with Birmingham-based textile artist Tina Francis;
  • A raffle of sewing-themed prizes, with all money raised being donated to Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid & Birmingham Mind (UK entrants only, due to postage of prizes).

With no need to travel to Birmingham we hope attendees will be able to join us from across the UK, and beyond.

International attendees - please note that the raffle, and kits for the bargello workshop, will be UK-only due to postage costs/delays. You are still welcome to join the bargello workshop, but will need to purchase supplies locally.

♥ Itinerary ♥

The planned itinerary for Saturday 17th October is below. Attendees can feel free to dip in and out.

10:00 (BST): Hello from local indie businesses!

Messages and discount codes from indie businesses in Birmingham and the Midlands will be shared via the event page and emailed to registered attendees.

Featured business will include SewBrum co-host Guthrie & Ghani, local fabric shops, and textile-artists and makers.

14:00 (BST): Live Bargello Stitch Workshop with Tina Francis

In the afternoon, attendees will get together online for a live bargello stitch workshop with Birmingham-based textile artist Tina Francis. The workshop will be free to watch, but you'll need to order a pattern and/or kit from Tina to participate in full (listings below). We will be stitching a bargello panel which is designed to be made into a pincushion or can be used to decorate another project of your choice. Attendees can see Tina's work on Instagram or in her recently published book, Modern Bargello.

Order the pattern or kit to participate using the links below:

Pattern Only

PDF Pattern (will be emailed during the week of SewBrum), £6.50

Paper Pattern, £8 (including UK postage)

(If purchasing the pattern only, you will need 12 count tapestry canvas, Anchor Tapestry Wools (or similar weight yarn), & a tapestry needle, to stitch the panel).

Pattern & Kit

Essentials ‘Stitch’ Kit, £10 (including UK postage). This kit includes everything you'll need to participate in the workshop: full-colour paper pattern, Zweigart 12 count tapestry canvas, Anchor Tapestry Wools, & John James Tapestry needle.

Full Pincushion Kit, £15 (including UK postage). This kit includes everything you'll need to participate in the workshop, plus supplies to make your bargello panel into a pincushion: full-colour paper pattern, Zweigart 12 count tapestry canvas, Anchor Tapestry Wools, John James Tapestry needle, thread to stitch your pincushion together, pillow stuffing made from recycled plastic bottles, & backing fabric sourced from pattern books at Birmingham Scrapstore.

15:00 (BST): Charity Raffle Prize Draw

Following the workshop, we will have a live draw of raffle prize winners (a SewBrum favourite!). Tickets need to be purchased in advance of the draw (£1 per entry) via either of the following JustGiving pages (one page for each of our supported charities):

Please note that, in order to be eligible to win a prize, you must 1) donate before 13:00 BST on 17/10/2020, 2) must provide your name when donating (anonymous donations will not be eligible), and 3) must attend the prize draw at 15:00 BST on 17/10/2020 (as contact details may not be available to me via JustGiving). Unfortunately, the raffle is open to UK entrants only, due to organising postage of physical items.

Full details of raffle prizes will be provided to registered attendees closer to the date.

SewBrum is hosted by Charlotte (Charlotte Emma Patterns) & Lauren (Guthrie & Ghani)
