Event description

Description

Even absolute beginners will gain knowledge, confidence and a brand new bag in this comprehensive back-to-basics 3-hour workshop.

Sewing is an incredibly satisfying and useful pastime but many people who have never sewn before are daunted by the thought of using commercial patterns and sewing machines. This workshop takes the mystery out of the jargon and symbols. You will learn how to use a pattern, prepare the fabric, cut out and transfer marks. You will thread the machine and discover its basic functions. You will put all this into practice by making a simple tote bag and by the end will have the skills and confidence to continue your new hobby in your own time.

Suitable for: absolute beginners; those who haven't sewn for a while and would like a refresher.

All equipment and materials provided for the duration of the class.

You will be able to take your bag away with you but if you wish to keep the pattern there will be an extra charge.

You may bring your own sewing machine and I can show you how to use it. Please contact me beforehand if you wish to do this.

If you would prefer to bring your own fabric then you are welcome to. In this case you will need 1m of 152cm (60") wide fabric. Stiff cottons such as denim, twill, canvas or upholstery material will work best. (If your chosen fabric is 115 cm wide you will need 1.2m). Please contact me if you have any questions and I will be happy to help.

Cancellation policy: you may cancel up to 7 days beforehand and receive a refund less a 25% administration fee.
