Get to grips with the basics of sewing and make something unique for yourself, a friend, or a loved one.
Led by Designer, Susie Haigh, this 5-week course is designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the wonderful world of sewing and equip you with foundational skills that can be applied to a range of projects.
Learn how to use a sewing machine; discover different fabric types and terminology; practice stitches and seams, seam finishes, topstitching, hems, buttonholes, zippers and machine appliqué. Then harness your new found skills to create something special from a selection of mini projects including a tote bag, ipad/laptop case, cushion cover, apron, or make-up purse.
Skill Level & Sewing Machines
This is a Pure Beginner level course, which means it's suitable for absolute beginners, or anyone who wants to firm up on the basics. The setting for this course is the relaxing, social atmosphere of The Stitchery studio, which comes fully equipped with a sewing machine for each student (you are welcome to bring your own if you like!).
- An understanding of basic sewing techniques
- One, two (or more!) finished items, made by you, in a fabric and styling of your choice.
- A Sewing for Beginners e-book, with the instructions for all projects - so that you can go and make more!
- A sample book with all your learned techniques, for future reference.
