Join us for an evening of readings, conversation and short films, celebrating the release of Sex Is No Emergency, by Dorothy Max Prior in coversation with Ben Thompson.
In this new volume focusing on the 1980s, Dorothy Max Prior recalls her life as it becomes ever more surreal and bemusing: days drumming and touring with infamous experimental pansexual psychedelic rock group Psychic TV; exploring London and New York City’s queer clubbing undergrounds; weaving through the tangled worlds of the UK’s indie music scene at the height of its influence. Not to mention ballroom dancing, birthing babies, breastfeeding, and moving to Brighton to become a performance artist.
Wise, wry, and endlessly charming, this is a sparkling account of bold, adventurous creativity featuring cameos from Björk, Derek Jarman, Madonna, Jamie Reid, Ray Harryhausen and a host of others.
