About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Brook’s Traffic Light Tool training provides a highly visible, multi-agency response that helps professionals to identify, understand and respond appropriately to sexual behaviours in young people. The tool and accompanying training will provide professionals within and across organisations with a framework for identifying whether behaviour is part of healthy development or if it is a cause for concern. It will also provide guidance on when to safeguard and/or signpost to internal or external support. Participants will be able to:

Identify behaviour and establish if sexual behaviour is typical or developmentally appropriate, problematic or harmful.

Understand what that behaviour is communicating and why the child or young person may be exhibiting the behaviour.

Respond – the type of response will depend on what's motivating the behaviour

Learning Objectives

Explain parts of the law which refer to sexual behaviour

Know how their values relating to sexuality affect decision making

Rate different scenarios as green, amber or red

Use their action plan created in the training, which will support the integration of the toolkit into internal training.

Please note: Both the Tool and training are designed to complement existing safeguarding processes and should not be considered a replacement for your organisation’s safeguarding procedures.
