Description

Join us at the first specialist conference in North and Mid Essex dedicated to dispelling the myths around sexual violence and child sexual abuse. Primarily aimed at frontline professionals, the conference will:

  • increase understanding of sexual violence and child sexual abuse,

  • challenge myths and misconceptions,

  • help professionals to support victims and survivors

The conference will include the following presentations:

-Victim responses to rape: Myths and realities. Zoe Lodrick, Sexualised Trauma Specialist

-Rape Myths in Sexual Violence Trials. Dr Olivia Smith, Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Anglia Ruskin University

-Myths and realities of CSA: A survivor’s perspective. Chris Tuck, CSA Survivor and member of Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) Survivors Panel.

Choose two of the following five workshops:

Workshop 1:

Post trauma - understanding the symptomatology.

Zoe Lodrick leads an in-depth look at the effects of, and responses to, trauma.

Workshop 2:

From Report to Court: How Myths Effect the Criminal Justice Process

A workshop run by our ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Adviser) team looking at the criminal justice process from a victim’s perspective.

Workshop 3:

Myths and their lifelong impact on adult survivors

Our team of Adult's Practitioners provide an in-depth look at how some of the common myths around sexual violence and child sexual abuse can have a profound and life-long impact on victims and survivors. The workshop will address how we, as professionals, can avoid perpetuating these myths.

Workshop 4:

CSA: Through the Eyes of a Child

Our Child and Family Practitioners lead a discussion based on their experiences working with children up to the age of 12. How does a child’s age influence their experience and subsequent disclosure of CSA? How can we as professionals give children a voice?

Workshop 5:

Young People: What to Say When You Don’t Know What to Say…

When young people talk to you about surviving sexual violence, how can you respond positively and without judgement? Our team of Young Person's Practitioners lead the discussion.
