Sexual violence awareness; understanding consent and responding supportively to sexual violence disclosures

Date & Time: 9.30am-12.30pm Tuesday 21st October 3 hours
This training introduces the subject of sexual violence, focussing on the key subjects of consent and societal context. Learners will gain a broad understanding of what sexual violence is, including different forms of violence. We will explore the law relating to consent and how it is applied.
Learners will discuss the societal context of sexual violence and consider how this can impact, and obscure understandings of consent and affect the responses victims can have when disclosing sexual violence. Learners will gain skills on how to use this knowledge to respond supportively to disclosers of sexual violence.
This training is recommended for any institution or organisation to support the safety and well-being of their community.
This is a small group interactive multi-professional training event with a maximum of 12 participants.
Whilst some of our services are specifically for women and girls, our training is open to everyone.
Learning Outcomes:
- Define sexual violence
- Understand consent to sexual activity
- Understand the societal context of sexual violence and the impact this has on victims
- Develop skills to respond supportively to disclosures of sexual violence
- Identify local and national help and support

Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland has over 45 years’ experience in delivering specialist sexual violence services for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. Our training is written, designed and delivered by professionals who are specialists in working with women and girls who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. As well as providing specialist services to people who have experience sexual violence RCTN works strategically to raise awareness of their clients’ needs and to deliver and support sexual violence prevention work.
