Seemingly never out of the news, sexual violence and abuse is far more widespread than previously thought and impacts on professionals from many fields in their work with clients. In this one day workshop you will gain a deep understanding of the issues around and impact of abuse, separating the myths and misconceptions from the truths. You will learn about the following topics:

  • What sexual violence is and the difference between rape, sexual and indecent assault

and sexual harassment

  • The effects of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) including those resulting from familial CSA,

ritual abuse and female genital mutilation

  • Dealing with dissociation
  • What makes vulnerable adults more of a target?
  • The role of Sexual Assault Referral Centres and how to find one
  • Legal definitions

Key Speaker

Jacqui Kershaw is a psychotherapist in private practice who specialises in difficulties caused by any type of abuse. She has worked in the field of abuse for more than thirty years with ten of those being on the frontline, dealing with some of the most vulnerable victims and their families. She is also an independent domestic violence advisor, advocating in court for survivors of abuse and a mental health first aider. Jacqui continues to develop and deliver preventative training modules in any area of abuse. She is also the founder of “Sweet Ways To Stop Abuse” which provides free counselling in schools to anyone who has been the victim of any type of abuse.

If you cancel:

Up to 30 days prior to the conference you will be issued full refund minus a £20 administration fee.
Between 30 and 14 days ahead, 50% refund minus £20 administartion fee.
Less than 14 days ahead, no refund.


If in the unfortunate event that Accord has to cancel the conference, fees will be refunded in full.
