Description

Sexually transmitted infection rates in the UK are among the highest in Europe and continue to rise. This course provides an overview of STIs and the skills needed to communicate about issues surrounding them.It is suitable for those working with adults and young people in any setting, including education, health, youth work and social care, who wish to work more effectively with their client group in raising awareness of STIs.

Aim

To enable participants to communicate with clients, providing up to date information about STIs to promote positive sexual health

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will

  • Gain an introductory level knowledge of common sexually transmitted infections – their signs, symptoms, transmission and treatment
  • Be able to raise the issue of sexually transmitted infections and communicate more confidently within sexual health promotion work
  • Understand factors, barriers and attitudes to STis that may influence clients access to services
  • Consider strategies and resources available to promote positive sexual health
  • Review the relevance of this knowledge on their practice supporting work with clients
