Description

Join The Literary Platform team on the second of its TLP Field Trips - a chance to get out and see project work talked through by the project makers themselves.

Shackleton’s Man Goes South is the new novel by Tony White published by the Science Museum earlier this year. This thought-provoking new work of fiction is the Science Museum’s 2013 Atmosphere commission, published as part of the Contemporary Arts Programme. The novel is accompanied by a display in the Museum’s Atmosphere Gallery charting some of the scientific and literary inspiration behind the novel, that runs until spring 2014. In a central innovation visitors can use a dedicated touchscreen that is part of the display, to email themselves a free ebook of the novel in formats compatible with most devices.

… certainly the most distinctive and formally creative novel I’ve read this year. Niall Harrison, Strange Horizons

… a triumph of controlled anger […] It’s not often that fiction, a novel, genuinely manages to shock. David Gullen, Arcfinity

The Science Museum has published its first ever work of fiction, a novel by its former writer-in-residence Tony White that was inspired by a lost fragment by one of the members of Robert Falcon Scott’s ill-fated 1911 Antarctic expedition – one of the earliest tales ever to mention climate change. The Guardian

We're delighted that Tony and Sarah will be able to talk about the novel and the project and walk us through the accompanying exhibition in this exclusive one-off tour for The Literary Platform readers. Registration price includes a signed copy of the limited edition paperback of Shackleton's Man Goes South, and the tour will end at the Science Museum’s Dana Centre cafe where guests can continue the conversation.
