Shaftesbury Snowdrop Study, Sale and Social is the place to hear interesting speakers, buy beautiful plants and meet fellow galanthophiles.

About this Event

Programme

We are delighted to introduce this year's speakers: a trio of eminent men and the co-authors of "Snowdrops: A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus"

9.15 – 9.45 AM Registration and Coffee

10.00 AM Dr Aaaron Davis Senior Research Leader of Plant Resources, at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, will speak on ”Discovering and understanding snowdrop species, past and present”. Aaron has recently been to Turkey to see the newly identified species Galanthus bursanus.

11.00 AM Matt Bishop, celebrated gardener, snowdrop grower & seller, will speak on “Future Trending: Mixed Mutant Phenotypes”. Matt’s narrative will describe how genetic mutations produce many more stunning snowdrops varieties.

12.00 PM Soup and Cake lunch

12.00 – 1.00 PM VIP entry to ‘The Best in the West Snowdrop Sale’ in The Guildhall on Shaftesbury High Street.

1.00 PM The public now have access to 'The Best in the West Snowdrop Sale’

From 2.00 PM Self-guided Garden Visit to “The Old Rectory”, East Orchard, Shaftesbury, SP7 0BA. https://ngs.org.uk/view-garden/21086/ (NB your visit includes tea and cake).

2.45 PM Dr John Grimshaw, Director of the Yorkshire Arboretum, respected gardener, botanist and author. John has written and edited several books, including “The Gardeners' Atlas”, a book on the origins of the world's most popular plants; co-author of “Snowdrops: A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus” and “New Trees, Recent Introductions to Cultivation”. He brings his specialist knowledge to talk aboout “Woody Plants for the Winter Garden”.

Where is the "Best in the West Snowdrop Sale" held?

Our sale takes place at The Guildhall in The Town Hall, High St, Shaftesbury, SP7 8LY

Is there a pop-up shop this year?

Our pop-up shop will be in Shaftesbury Arts Centre and the Tourist Information Centre, and the Snowdrops in Art Exhibition will also be open throughout the day.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Free all day parking is available at the Barton Hill Car Park, SP7 8QA (off the Ivy Cross Roundabout). There is long stay paid car parking directly opposite the Arts Centre but please make sure you are in the correct area of the car park!

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes -please follow the instructions on Eventbrite.

Do I have to bring my printed order to the event?

No, we will have all your details at registration with your name badge.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

We'll hand write a name tag for you if someone else buys you a ticket. You can also email us in advance.
