Description

Wondering how to give your children a great first encounter with Shakespeare? In our free two and a half hour practical workshop you will discover the best ways to engage and inspire children through a hands-on approach to discovering Shakespeare in the primary classroom. You will:

Explore Shakespeare through a range of cross-curricular activities

Gain an understanding of the importance of genuine historical and archival research and evidence

Link learning about Shakespeare to the new Primary curriculum

Discover how to devise whole-school Shakespeare themes and work with cluster schools

Learn a series of Drama techniques to use when introducing your pupils to Shakespeare

Look at Shakespeare’s plays in the context of the time in which they were written

Learn how to embed Shakespeare Week into your school’s curriculum and start your children on their journey with Shakespeare

Prove to your pupils how Shakespeare is as relevant today as he was 400 years ago

This course is for all Primary school teachers, whether they have a good understanding of Shakespeare or have simply watched Shakespeare in Love! All teachers will leave with increased confidence and a toolkit of free resources and inspirational ideas, ready to bring Shakespeare to life in the Primary classroom. This free course takes place in the Cloister at Eton College.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) owns and cares for five Shakespeare houses in and around Stratford-upon-Avon. It is the mission of SBT to lead the world’s enjoyment and understanding of Shakespeare’s work, life and times. SBT provides educational experiences for schools, universities and visitors from around the world. Nicola Hawley and Sarah Fisher are Education Officers at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. They are experienced primary school teachers and have delivered CPD to teachers in both school and heritage settings.

Eton College, as well as being a school, has a collection of books, archives, art and objects that spans many centuries and topics, including a Shakespeare First Folio. Eton College Collections provides free, activity-based, National Curriculum linked education sessions to primary schools.
