The internet has given a new lease of life to alternate, and until recently marginal theories about the authorship of Shakespeare’s plays and poems. The list of candidates grows, from Sir Francis Bacon to the Earl of Oxford, from Mary Sidney to Christopher Marlowe. Professor Rene Weis will demonstrate that the case for William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon is overwhelming and that the evidence for this is both external (friends like Ben Jonson bearing witness) and internal (a trace history of Shakespeare’s life left in the plays and sonnets).
