The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will become concrete legislation from 25 May 2018 onwards. Considered the biggest alteration of data privacy regulation for decades, GDPR will affect all businesses that manage data, and dictate the ways that companies must protect it.
This EU-wide scheme will come into effect in the UK, regardless of the Brexit deal, and all businesses in the United Kingdom are obliged to adopt new GDPR procedures (or face hefty, hefty fines).
By flying the flag of accountability and transparency, data processing will have to become more trustworthy and secure.
If your company collects, holds onto, processes, or uses the data of any European citizens (including those in the UK), you *must* comply to the new regulations.
For those of you that have €20 million or 4% of your annual profits to spare, then no need to be too alarmed! Otherwise, this is definitely something to prioritise for your business.
