Shanklin in World War II - 2.5 miles

From bomb sites to boozing sites Shanklin and District History Society reveals Shanklin's experience of wartime Britain. Our route takes us around the town and through the old village.


Length of walk: 2.5 miles (approx 2.5 hours)

Walk Leader: Sammantha Cave

Walk Cost: Voluntary donation requested (but not obligatory) to IOW Defibrillators which is the society's chosen charity for 2023-24.

Type of Walk: Circular

Pace of Walk: Gentle - This walk will follow a gentle pace.

Walk grade: Fairly Easy - Gentle, rolling landscape, walking on paths with good to average surfaces. Some walking on gentle inclines, some stiles or steps to be expected en route.

Mobility level: Suitable for a person with sufficient mobility to climb a flight of steps but would benefit from fixtures and fittings to aid balance.

Facilities:

  • Dogs on leads welcome
  • Toilets along route
  • Good walking footwear recommended
  • There are steps on the route
