Event description

This event will provide updates on the SHAP WMHOG research, the new ERDF calls and how the SHAP WMHOG research can support investment decisions and access to finance (including development of ERDF grant applications) . You can join in person or via webinar.

This event is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and hosted by Dudley College.

This event is relevant for:

  • New build housing developers
  • Portfolio holders with an interest in investing in fabric and energy system improvements for their existing stock
  • Supply chain companies wanting to find out more about drivers and tools supporting delivery of high quality, high performing housing investment

The event is comprised of 2 parts:

1. TOUR of Advance II

The construction industry is changing and needs a workforce that is trained in new and innovative construction methods to meet the industry’s future needs.

Having recognised the challenges facing the sector, Dudley College of Technology has invested in Dudley Advance II, a new Centre for Advanced Building Technologies providing apprenticeships, full time courses and professional and technical upskilling.

Courses cover

  • Digital Technologies
  • Building Technicians
  • Environmental Technologies
  • Engineering for offsite manufacturing construction.

This event will provide updates to the SHAP WMHOG research published in July 2018. The webinar will include information on discussions on:

new build performance standards for homes fit for 2050

o overheating

o ventilation

o performance monitoring

o offsite manufacturing (MMC/AMC/DfMA)

  • the WMCA housing deal
  • the new Homes England placemaking requirement for funded schemes
  • using procurement to manage risk and secure better value from investment in housing projects
  • developing and financing low carbon housing innovation projects and applying for ERDF

The SHAP WMHOG research to support better, more secure outcomes from investment in housing was published in July 2018. . The research investigated the interdependent issues of:

  • WHAT performance should be expected from a healthy, high quality affordable home
  • HOW investment in housing retrofit and energy performance can be financed
  • WHY procurement is the key to derisking investment and securing value

The SHAP WMHOG research provides emerging information and recommendations on why investment in low carbon innovation projects makes sense – adding value and derisking outcomes compared to ‘Business as Usual’.

Over the last 2 months, SHAP has been taking the research models and recommendations to decisionmakers including Homes England, the West Midlands Combined Authority, LEPs, local authorities, social housing providers and MHCLG.

New ERDF calls inviting bids for low carbon housing projects will be opening shortly. SHAP has supported 2 projects to full application in the last year.

The event will be hosted by Dudley College, where new investment in teaching facilities and courses is set to address some of the issues holding back investment in low carbon, high quality, high performance housing. You can see more about the venue at:
