What insights can the humanities and social sciences provide for policymakers in these tricky times? And how can policy support these disciplines more effectively?

At a time when humanities and social sciences are under pressure, this lecture will show the value of these disciplines for policymakers as demonstrated through the work of The British Academy. Hetan Shah will discuss how the humanities and social sciences can provide essential insight on matters from artificial intelligence to economic strategy, and how these subjects are vital to the future prosperity, health and happiness of the nation. He will go on to discuss what policymakers can do to support these disciplines to ensure that the UK retains its multidisciplinary strengths.

Through the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series, DMU welcomes influential voices from across public life to share fresh perspectives, challenge assumptions and inspire our community of students, staff and partners.

This event is open to all.

Bookings will close 3 hours prior to the start of the event.

Please contact the DMU Events Office at eventsoffice@dmu.ac.uk if you have any queries.

We do hope you can join us for what promises to be a great lecture and discussion.
