Shaping the Real

Shaping the Real

By Theo Bryer

Overview

A practical conference focusing on the facilitation of group work in drama, involving reflection on the role of the teacher in the process.

This conference follows on from our two successful drama conferences about being in learning and teacher in role. Our focus for this day is shaping meaningful group work in drama.

Through practical sessions participants will consider how to facilitate the key moment of moving into group work and how to sustain the drama, reflecting on the roles the teacher assumes through the process.

Our focus is on we can support students in bringing their cultural experience and understandings to the drama to create, express and make meanings collaboratively and independently.

We will explore how we facilitate young people to step into a shared space, develop ownership of their narratives, and so begin to make sense of the world in which they live. As teachers, as we reach to enable the young to develop and shape their work in dramatic form, we create opportunities to learn from them.
