Event Details

Ideal for anybody working in the voluntary and community sector (including social enterprises) looking to improve their confidence in managing the business planning process, this course provides an overview to the fundamentals of the business planning process – enabling you to plan your future services and determine the resources required to deliver them.

We will explore theory, practical examples and tools to use as well as codes of good practice using case studies, peer learning and practical exercises.

We will highlight key concepts, such as how to create a strategic plan, researching and developing an operational plan and implementing, maintaining and evaluating your business plan.

By the end of the course, you will be able to develop and implement a robust business plan with clarity and confidence. 

Who should attend? 

This course is suitable for: 

•   Any member of staff for whom the production of a business plan is in their area of responsibility
•   Any trustee or staff member who would like an enhanced understanding of the business planning process 
•   Staff and trustees looking to refresh thier skills and knowledge

  • How to write one – main headings
  • Who to involve – key stakeholders 
  • Techniques and tools for developing a business plan
  • Relating your plan to corporate objectives and strategy
  • Market analysis - market size and future trends
  • Risk analysis
  • Strategic planning
  • Financial management and reporting 
  • Managing resources - setting team/departmental objectives and direction
  • Measuring success – defining outputs and outcomes 
  • Learning and adapting

Outcomes 

On completion of this Fundamentals of Business Planning course participants will be able to: 

•   Understand the essential components of a business plan 
•   Develop a business plan 
•   Link the business plan to the overall strategy considering timing, budgeting and risk analysis aspect 
•   Feel more confident when taking part in the business planning process

Non-CAS members:  £50

Please note that booking and then failing to attend may result in a charge to your organisation.

Lunch is not provided for this course. Ideally, if you could bring lunch with you that would be great. Otherwise there is a café next to Cambridge House, or we can provide you with directions to other local cafes and supermarkets nearby.
