About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

The event starts at 7:30 pm. You don’t need to turn on your camera, but you will need to either speak or type in the chat to share your thoughts.

If you're running late, don’t worry – join us whenever you can. A member of the Bristol City Council Commissioning team will also be joining us.

We want to hear your thoughts on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SEND IASS) in Bristol, which is currently provided by SEND and You. Previously known as supportive parents

The service is being re-tendered, which means that Bristol City Council will be asking organisations to apply to run the service.

The budget won’t change much, so while new support likely can’t be added, we want to hear from families about what support is most helpful to them. This will help ensure the service is planned in a way that best meets the needs of local families.

The SEND IAS service helps children, young people and parents with advice on education, health and social care. They offer:

  • Face-to-face meetings
  • Support via the telephone
  • Email support
  • Website and social media

Their website has:

  • Information on SEND topics
  • Links to helpful groups
  • Information about the educational support you should expect from shcools and colleges

SEND IASS also:

  • Helps families speak up about issues like exclusion and complaints
  • Supports some families during SEND Tribunal appeals
  • Offers training to schools, health professionals and families on SEND rights

We want to know what support from this service families have found most helpful, and if families know about this service and how it can support their family. This will help ensure the service works as well as possible for local families.

Organised by

Bristol Parent Carers is a friendly group of volunteer parent carers, caring for children and young people (0-25 years) with Special Educational Needs, and Disabilities (SEND) who live in Bristol. Our expanding group comes from all different backgrounds and communities in Bristol.

We offer support and signposting for families across Bristol to that they receive the right support, at the right time, and in the right way. We also work together with local SEND services across Health, Education and Social Care, in order to shape the experiences that services provide for all families in Bristol. It's really important to share your views with us so that we can use your feedback to ensure local services deliver the kind of support local families expect.
