Join Scottish Book Trust for a shared practice event, looking at ways for schools to ensure pupil voice is at the heart of your Reading Schools journey and how you might acknowledge the rights, voice and choice of children and young people in your setting through the Reading Schools programme.

Children and young people can offer unique perspectives on what it is like to be a pupil at their school; involving them in decision-making can create meaningful change and facilitate a sense of empowerment and inclusion. Using the Reading Schools framework as a guide, we will share different approaches to provide meaningful opportunities to share pupils’ views, suggestions and hopes; and participate in building a strong reading culture in their school.

This event is a great opportunity for schools at any stage of their Reading Schools journey to hear from Reading Schools who have been granted accreditation, as they discuss their learning, successes and challenges. There will be opportunities to share practice together, speak to others across the country about their experiences, ask the team questions, and come away inspired and enthused about Reading Schools.  And, perhaps most importantly for this session, we will hear from children and young people who will be speaking about their experiences and the Reading Schools activities they enjoyed driving forward.

As well as hearing from Scottish Book Trust colleagues, guest schools, and pupils there will be the opportunity to share ideas and discuss your ongoing reading adventures in an interactive session, with fellow learning professionals and education colleagues.

This session will be held on Microsoft Teams with joining details sent in advance.  For the best experience, we recommend joining the webinar using the Microsoft Teams app rather than using the browser.

Reading Schools is a national accreditation programme for schools which are committed to building a reading culture with and for their learners and communities. Research indicates that reading for pleasure positively impacts on learners' attainment across the curriculum, supports wellbeing, critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.

NB: We have two self-directed e-learning modules containing curated elements to help give programme participants the relevant knowledge to commence and achieve their Reading Schools accreditation. These can be found here.
