Description

TRAINERS: Professor Janet Ulph, Leicester Law School, and Emily Gould, Senior Researcher, Institute of Art & Law

Please arrive after 10.30 for an 11.00 start. Refreshments will be provided on arrival but please bring your own lunch

Join Professor Janet Ulph (Leicester Law School) and Emily Gould (Senior Researcher, Institute of Art & Law) for this very special masterclass considering the law and ethics around aspects of museum collections, focusing on ownership and related issues. This is a fantastic opportunity for both aspiring museum professionals, as well as those who have been working in the sector for some time and who have experienced the challenges that these issues pose.

The session will cover:

  • Ownership issues and problems with donations to museums in a will
  • An overview of copyright law
  • Thinking about sponsorship
  • Acquisitions: legal and ethical concerns

Delegates will have the chance to learn more about current issues, recent case studies, and potential concerns within museum practice.

All delegates are encouraged to bring examples of issues they are tackling in their own institutions to discuss.

If you have any further questions, you may find them answered on our FAQs page.
