Event description

Description

Next year's event will take place 11 April at the Holiday Inn at Warmsworth.

Similar to the event last year, the conference will feature guest speakers, work and developments from members of Team DBTH and other informative workshops.

The event's keynote speaker will be James Titcombe.

James Titcombe OBE has campaigned for patient safety since his son Joshua Titcombe sadly died nine days after being born at Furness General Hospital, UK in 2008.

Following Joshua’s death, James worked tirelessly to uncover the truth about what happened at the hospital, culminating in the ‘Morecambe Bay Investigation Report’ in 2015 led by Dr Bill Kirkup. Since Joshua’s loss, James’ career has changed dramatically from working as a project manager in the nuclear industry to a career in patient safety – championing improvements in culture and learning throughout the healthcare environment.

Previously James was working with the Care Quality Commission as their National Advisor on Safety and recently has advised on the establishment of the new Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB).

James has recently been awarded a Postgraduate qualification in Patient Safety from Imperial College London.

He draws heavily on his own experience in speaking about quality improvement in the NHS. He reports sadly that "I'll Datix you", is used as a threat in argumentative situations in the NHS. James will be sharing his story and how we can learn from it to develop as an organisation.
