Sharing Power: Embedding Deliberative Methods in Scotland
Event Information
About this Event
Featuring lightning talks from across the public and community sector sharing stories of deliberative and participatory democracy in action, this session will examine the current participatory landscape in Scotland. Representatives from COSLA, Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament will be among those to share their experiences.
Following a provocation from Oliver Escobar, through a series of discussions and world-cafe style sessions we'll:
- Look at examples of deliberative and participatory democracy in action in Scotland
- Assess how successful these examples have proved
- Consider how different methods can be used for the right questions and at the right time
- Examine what we can learn from the experience of delivering these
Scottish Government’s Digital Engagement team will share their plans for future and ask ‘how should the internet be used to involve people? How can digital or online support other participatory methods?’
We’ll ask what the future could and should look like. We’ll think about the opportunities challenges in trying to systematise the landscape of deliberative and participatory democracy in Scotland, and discuss how these methods can be used to effectively support representative democracy.
Come along to hear more about the deliberative methods being used in a range of organisations and situations, to share your own experiences, and to take part in what promises to be a fascinating discussion
