Description

SHARKS

Sharks were formed by prodigious ex Free bass player Andy Fraser, composer of early rock anthem, Alright Now. The original line-up included seasoned UK session guitarist Chris Spedding, and a previously little-known singer, Steve ‘Snips’ Parsons, who was chosen over auditionees Robert Palmer and Leo Sayer. After one critically acclaimed album First Water, Fraser quit the band and was replaced by American virtuoso Busta Cherry Jones. Ex Audience keyboard player Nick Judd, was also recruited to augment the four-piece line-up. Jab It In Yore Eye was the sophomore album and once again, was critically acclaimed but sales failed to match that acclaim and the band folded. Spedding went on to play with many artistes, including people as diverse as John Cale and The Wombles, whilst Snips joined Ginger Baker, as frontman for the Baker Gurvitz Army. Andy Fraser resurfaced with the Andy Fraser Band, where his bass was featured as the lead instrument and was joined in this venture by Nick Judd!

1993 saw Snips and Spedding reunite with another Sharks project and over the years there have been several one-off shows and intermittent recordings which culminated in the release, earlier this year, of latest album Killers of the Deep, which featured Ex Pistol, Paul Cook on the Sharks skins. On the back of the success of that album, Sharks first tour since 1974 was announced and we can’t wait to hear them perform in Scarborough’s refurbished Victorian market hall on Friday September 22nd.
