SHE SHANTIES IN THE AFTERNOON
5pm to 7pm, Friday 3rd October - Rottingdean Windmill
Come join us for some shanty singing in the historic windmill - afternoon session. This is running before our regular session in the windmill from 7-9pm on the same day - do stay on if you like :-)
Led by local singers Jo N and Jo Goddard. Jo and Jo sing at a number of local folk events, including Homeward Bound shanty sessions at the Jolly Brewer and Farm Tavern. Jo G organises shanty & folk sessions at Rottingdean Windmill. Jo N is newer to singing and is keen to encourage others who might feel less confident.
We are holding this workshop to encourage women and people with a connection to that identity (trans and nonbinary folks very welcome) to sing up, sing along, and enjoy a shanty session. We want to help build up the confidence of more women singers and singers of other marginalised genders to take part in the various shanty sessions around Sussex.
Free to register then we will take a collection on the door. Pay what you can afford. No-one turned away for lack of funds. Your presence is more valuable than money ❤
Donations will go towards holding the event and refreshments. Reserve a spot here then donate on the night. Cash or card. This includes a songbook, hot drinks (Coffee, tea, herb teas and cake) cash or card.
PRACTICALITIES: Dress warm as its cold in the Mill (the Mill is unheated). Do bring a folding camp chair if you like - we have a few chairs but not many. The windmill is a historic building with 2 levels - we will be singing upstairs and there are very steep stairs. Please take care on the stairs, sorry no dogs - except small shanty-loving assistance dogs - inside the mill.
Seafront buses all stop close by: 12, 12a, 14, 14c, 27, 47 - get off at Windmill stop and head towards the Windmill behind the old café building.
