Date and time
Description
IMPORTANT INFO: all tickets went within 18 hours (cripes!) but you can add yourself to the waiting list. I'm sure there will be some dropouts as the date nears. Thank you!
Sheffield Content Club is a new meetup for the city’s content creators. It’s a place to meet like-minded folk and share stories, all in a positive, welcoming environment. Join us for edition one on 16th May from 6.30pm at Site Gallery.
Who is this for?
I know, I know – content is such a broad term that can mean all sorts of different things. But we don’t need to worry about that. If you’re involved in the process of making content of any kind – words, pictures, audio, video – then this is the meetup for you.
Whether you’re a writer, illustrator, designer, podcaster or someone who makes things happen, we’ll come together, share what we know and see if we can build our own little community.
Look who’s talking
For this first edition of Sheffield Content Club, I’m really pleased two fantastic speakers.
Claire Thornley is co-founder of Eleven Design and Sheffield's finest culture guide, Our Favourite Places. She'll tell us how a printed booklet grew to become the go-to place for both tourists and locals on the hunt for all things Sheffield. Claire will also show us behind the scenes to learn how the Our Favourite Places team consistently publish quality content in all its glorious forms.
Lisa Maltby is an independent designer and illustrator with an ace client list that includes the likes of Penguin Random House, Chatsworth House and John Lewis. She also successfully Kickstarted and published The Glorious Book of Curious Cocktails, a disgustingly delicious recipe book for children. In her talk, Lisa will share what she learned from her Kickstarter experience and how she’s been able to apply it to running her business.
What happens at Sheffield Content Club?
Speakers
Like most meetups, you’ll get to hear from two fantastic speakers who’ve created some cracking content. They’ll be sharing their work and we’ll be asking them to take us behind the scenes to see how it all got made. We want you to go away inspired, but also full of practical ideas that you can then use in your own thing, whatever that may be.
Talking shop
Time to get your creative juices flowing. Grab a few people, sit yourselves down and see if you can solve a terribly important content problem. There are no right or wrong answers. And almost certainly no prizes. But it’ll get you talking and, you never know, might lead to something marvellous.
For this first edition, we’re going to talk Content Club itself. What should it look like in the future? How can we keep the conversation going between events? What will make it more accessible and inclusive? I don’t have all the answers, so let’s use this first meetup to design Content Club together.
The Content Exchange
We’re going to rope off a section of wall space where we’ll have two columns. Column one will be for you to offer up your services or types of project you’d like to get involved with. In column two, you can add a specific project, topic or idea that you’re looking for help with. It’s professional matchmaking with Post Its.
Eating, drinking, polite chit-chat
Of course, there will be plenty of time for you to enjoy a beverage, eat something delicious and get down to some good old-fashioned talking to people. There will be beer, wine and soft drinks too, plus some veggie canapés that you can scoff away at.
