Developing Outstanding Mentoring across the SHU Partnership

Friday 28th April 2017

Join us for a free one day cross-phase Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-16 mentor conference, to celebrate the high quality of mentoring across the SHU partnership. The day will be an interesting and contemporary programme with a variety of workshops and lively discussions that focus on the key role that ITT mentors undertake in developing the next generation of outstanding teachers and a good opportunity for you to network with other mentors and university tutors.

Registration will be open from 8.30am with the keynote commencing at 9am

It will also be the inaugural event for the new Inspirational Mentor Awards.

This conference was highly successful last year and is set to be another very special event with it being held in our new building in Charles Street, City Campus

Guest Keynote Speaker: Dean Johnstone, Stronger Minds.

Dean says of his sessions:

Keynote:

By observing your mentees emotional wellbeing, you are able to offer early support when they are struggling with their own resilience. This keynote explores the signs and symptoms new teachers are likely to display when their emotional wellbeing is at risk and steps you can take to enable them to thrive as a new teacher.

Workshop:

The seminar will allow mentors the opportunity to explore the tools and resources that they can access to support their mentees emotional wellbeing, as well as to discuss the strategies which will strengthen resilience in new teachers.

Workshops Themes
The workshops will be organised into Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-16 and will focus upon key themes to assist mentors in supporting ITE trainees to improve their practice. Each workshop draws upon expertise from schools and university and will provide opportunity for all to share our best practice.

The main themes that will be covered

  • Coaching

  • Subject Pedagogy

  • Effective and Key aspects of mentoring

  • Using data to inform effective Teaching and Learning

  • Impact on pupil progress

On behalf of Sheffield Institute of Education, we look forward to seeing you at this years conference.
