Event description

Description

The day will focus on practical tools and techniques for HR colleagues and Line Management to use and share with teams when supporting people who are mentally unwell. This approach promotes a workplace culture that aligns with early intervention to manage mental health issues before they become more serious and costly. Our focus will be on how to implement the Mental Health Core Standards most easily to support your teams.

Our techniques are designed to encourage staff to remain in their jobs and feel supported, strengthening the relationships at work and alleviating pressure from management. The result is an increase in productivity and performance as we find absenteeism and presenteeism are reduced and the costs associated with mental ill-health are lowered.

Half-Day Booking Options Available. 20% reduction on full-day bookings.

Both sessions include a lunchtime networking opportunity with refreshments included

Morning Session 08:30 -12:45 - Demystifying Mental Health at Work

This experiential masterclass will support delegates in understanding the most prominent areas of mental ill-health that are jeopardising performance as well as the least understood mental health difficulties.

The components of this programme are as follows:

  • Addressing the impact of absenteeism and presenteeism
  • Exploration of indicators, symptoms and treatment options associated with:
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Psychosis
  • Suicidal thoughts

The legalities surrounding mental health issues can seem complex and difficult to digest. We will have Rebecca Denvers, Employment Solicitor and Mental Health Champion at Irwin Mitchell, covering all the essential aspects of law we need to be familiar with. This is not only to protect ourselves against claims but also those we have a duty of care towards whilst they are under our responsibility.

Afternoon session 12:45-16:30 - Stress, Resilience and Relaxation

Stress is a known cause of more serious mental health issues and physical health conditions. To help us avoid the consequences of chronic stress, the afternoon session will explore:

  • The manifestation of stress in both the brain and body
  • The impact of long-term stress on our physical being
  • Consequences of chronic stress
  • Personal responses to stress and early intervention
  • Resilient lifestyles
  • Destructive behaviours and healthy coping strategies
  • Long-term resilient lifestyles and workplace cultures

The day will close with a practical demonstration of what can be done in and outside of work to introduce and implement a mentally healthy workplace culture. Our special guest for this event is Carolyn Pearson, CEO and Founder of Maiden Voyage.

After a 20+ year career in leading technology teams for brands such as ITV, Sony Music, KLM, the BBC and easyJet, Carolyn left her corporate career to launch maiden-voyage in 2008. She holds a degree in Business & IT, an MBA and has completed the Cranfield School of Management Advance Development Programme in Leadership. Carolyn is a great advocate for wellbeing at work and is known to treat her MV team to a range of self-care indulgences, often as a surprise! Carolyn will be sharing with us her story of mental health difficulty and recovery as well as her unique Holistic Bingo technique which she uses to monitor and maintain self-care and wellbeing on a daily basis. This will be the first time Carolyn is sharing her technique live with an audience so don't miss out!

The grand finale will be a game-style review of learning using Kwizzbit, the interactive quiz! This fun, power-packed quiz will really bring out the competitive-edge in our delegates as we are tested on not only our ability to answer questions correctly, but also in the quickest time! The winner will be gifted an enviable prize which is guaranteed to improve personal wellbeing.
