Event description

Description

We’re bringing together young adults aged 16 – 30 living with or beyond a brain tumour diagnosis across Sheffield to find out more about local support, hear talks and learn tips on managing side effects and take part in a range of activities. Whether your brain tumour was of high or low grade and however it has affected you, come and join us to find out what's available locally, try something new and connect with other young adults who are going through similar experiences.

The day is being run in partnership between the Teenage and Young Adult team at Sheffield Weston Park Hospital and The Brain Tumour Charity with the support of Clifford House. There will be talks on the day from the Psychology team and the Young Adults Team at The Brain Tumour Charity. There will also be information stands from a variety of local organisations as well as workshops on cookery, photography, yoga and lots more.

What should I expect?

Whether you’ve been to an event before or this is something completely new, you are very welcome! We’d just like to make young adults from outside the Sheffield area aware that the support available is specific to Sheffield and the surrounding areas. There will be the opportunity to take part in as much or as little as you’d like throughout the day and there will be plenty of friendly faces from the Teenage and Young Adult Team from Weston Park Hospital as well as the Young Adults Team at The Brain Tumour Charity and some of our Young Ambassadors. This event will be a safe space to get to know new people with similar experiences, try something new and build your confidence.

If you’d like to bring a plus one with you, please do – this can be a family member, a friend or a partner.

Where is the event being held?

Clifford House, Ecclesall Road South, Sheffield, S11 9PX from 10.45 – 15.30.

Travelling in?

Clifford House is next to Whirlow Lane bus stop, served by the 81, 82, 271, 272 and 65. If you are driving or getting dropped off there is plenty of free parking at Clifford House and on Ecclesall Road South. If you would like to discuss support with travel please do get in touch with the Young Adults Team at The Brain Tumour Charity at YAS@thebraintumourcharity.org

Please don’t worry about…

  • Money – the day is free to attend

  • Not making friends/anxiety – we guarantee you will. Everyone is in a similar boat and understands your situation so you’re sure to make friends. Plus, our friendly team are there to help too.

  • Fatigue – you’ll be surrounded by people who understand and if there’s anything you don’t want to do, or if you just want some time to relax, this is 100% okay!

  • “I won’t be very good at…” – This is a relaxed space of supportive peers where it’s the taking part (and having fun) that counts.

  • “I’m coming alone” – you’re welcome to bring a plus one, however, you’re sure to meet lots of people so don’t worry if you do come alone; you soon won’t be.

Please note: All attendees including plus ones must be aged 16 and above.

If you have any questions, or would like help to arrange travel, please contact the Young Adults Team on YAS@thebraintumourcharity.org
