About this event

  • 2 hours

She'Koyokh are one of London's musical treasures, performing the rich folk traditions of Jewish Eastern Europe, Turkey and the Balkans, the music fiery and emotional, the gorgeous songs lyric and virtuosic.

I'm exploring arranging a 90 to 120m workshop in the afternoon with She'Koyokh. Music would be sent round in advance. Let me know if this would interest you.

In concert, this prize-winning and impressively multinational band are never less than brilliant, weaving a rich tapestry of intricate, kaleidoscopic melodies, rambunctious rhythms and stunning and soulful song.

This award-winning band has a 18-year history as 'a brilliant live ensemble' (Songlines Magazine), and a reputation for being 'the best klezmer and Balkan music band in the UK' (Evening Standard).

Since bursting on to the UK's music scene in the early naughties, busking at London's East End markets, She'Koyokh has toured the world, won numerous international awards - and released four critically acclaimed albums.

Absorbing and performing the rich folk music traditions of Jewish Eastern Europe, Turkey and the Balkans, She'Koyokh's shows bring together the stunning polyphonic melodies and intricate rhythms of Bulgaria, treasured tunes from Serbian villages and exhilarating Gypsy dances from Romania as well as soulful Sephardic songs and Klezmer music from the Jewish diaspora. Added to the mix are Albanian folk songs popular in southern Kosovo, beautiful Armenian songs and Yiddish swing numbers from 1950s New York.

She'Koyokh is a Yiddish word meaning 'nice one!'

'Amongst the finest klezmer ensembles on the planet.' The Australian ★★★★★ Evening Standard ★★★★★ Roots Magazine ★★★★ Songlines Magazine ★★★★ BBC Music Magazine ★★★★ 'One of the finest and most entertaining British-based exponents of global music.' The Guardian
