Description

In May 2016, Sheku Kanneh-Mason won the BBC Young Musician competition, performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at London’s Barbican Hall. Sheku began learning the cello aged six with Sarah Huson-Whyte, continuing his studies with Ben Davies at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music. He begins his undergraduate studies as a full-time student of the Royal Academy of Music in September 2017.

Sheku will be joined at the Old Divinity School by his sister Isata Kanneh-Mason, an undergraduate at The Royal Academy of Music, studying piano with Hamish Milne, having been awarded the prestigious Sir Elton John Scholarship. She performed with Elton John in Los Angeles in 2013.

Together they will perfom:

Gaspar Cassado: Suite for solo cello
Beethoven: Sonata for cello & piano in G minor, Op.5 No.2
Shostakovich: Sonata in D minor, Op.40

Doors open 7.30pm, concert begins at 8pm
