With #Like a Girl and Sport England’s latest This Girl Can campaign achieving phenomenal success, the issue of how women are portrayed in society is more topical than ever. What impact does this have on us as women at different stages in our lives? How does it affect us growing up and how we behave? And how do these stereotypes influence what is clearly a gender gap in what should be a forward thinking industry.
Shesays UK were privileged to hold a series of talks at Eurobest’s Festival of Creativity in December on the theme of Women in Advertising and the roles played today. For the next two events we’ll be sharing these insightful and provocative debates in London.
PART 1: Wednesday 1st April 2015
The Portrayal of Women in the Media – Marcie Macllelan
Marcie will be discussing the characterisation of woman at the scriptwriting and concept development stage and asking where the responsibility lies when it comes to challenging certain stereotypes.
Innovation and Empathy – Vimla Appadoo
Vimla will look at how these stereotypes can often affect behaviours of individuals in the workplace, and how those actions can affect output. She’ll delve into personality traits of introverts and extroverts, exploring how empathy can often be the key to unleashing our full creative potential.
PART 2: End of April
Joined by a panel Executive Creative Directors from top agencies and leading industry figureheads, Jo of Shesays will challenge and conduct a lively debate around the shameful fact that there are still only three percent of female senior figures at board level in the ad industry, highlighting the importance of equality in order to help the best talent thrive now and in the future.
Throughout the night we'll be tweeting from @shesaysuk, so please join the discussion with #TheseWomenCan
Due to popular demand, if you are unable to make the event, please let us know via twitter or at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can make tickets available to others.
