Event description
Online workshop where tutor Elizabeth Williamson will introduce you lace knitting and knitted lace through 'the fern' motif

About this event

In this online workshop, Elizabeth will take you through the basic stitches and techniques of Shetland lace knitting. At the end of the session, you will have a swatch of the fern pattern on a garter base.

In Shetland lace there are patterns, which are patterned on each row, and these are known as knitted lace. The fern pattern incorporates lace knitting as well as knitted lace in its design, so a great introduction to knitted lace.

This workshop is suitable for an Intermediate skill level It would be an advantage if participants had a little experience in lace and felt confident with yarn overs, knitting two togethers and three togethers. Both charts and written instructions will be provided.

For the workshop, you will need: size 4mm needles and lace weight yarn (preferably in a light colour to make the stitches more easily seen)

Pre-workshop instructions:

  • Cast on 45 stitches
  • Knit 6 rows of garter stitch
