Description

This one day course is suitable for experienced health care assistants and will provide all of the resources and tools that the HCA will need to deliver shingles immunisations.

A prerequisite for attendance is experience of general practice, including prior vaccination administration – such as influenza vaccine. HCAs that attend this course will be undertaking practice that requires professional maturity in their role and must be trained to, or have the equivalent of an NVQ 3/Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Delegates will receive a comprehensive workbook and competencies to be signed off by a mentor in practice. The HCA will require a period of supervised practice and review of practice annually including annual CPR and anaphylaxis updates.

Upon completion of the course and workbook the HCA will have an awareness of the roles and responsibility associated with administration of the shingles vaccination.

The HCA will have received the knowledge and training to administer the shingles vaccination with the support of a Protocol and Patient Specific Directive.
