About this event

Hobbies • DIY

This session is open to all; a community bike fix DIY drop-in session where you can come along get advice on bike repairs, and use our workshop to repair your own bike. You’ll have access to our tools, our stock of new & used bike parts and we’ll have an experienced mechanic on hand to advise you, should you need it.

We often have maintenance classes running at the same time, so if it's busy, there's a chance our mechanic will be rushed off their feet! Please bear this in mind if you think you will need a significant degree of assistance, although we are happy to provide plenty of help when we are free and able.

Please book a ticket to the event so we can be aware of numbers; the Bike Kitchen runs from 5pm to 8pm, with last entries at 7:30pm.

If you have any questions, or if you will need some quite specific tools or parts and you're not sure if we'll have them, please email adrian@capitalofcycling.org before the session.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fix my bike for me?

This session is for you to fix your own bike, using our tools and parts, and we can give you a little bit of help if things go wrong. If you don't know how, we are more than happy to look things over, advise you on what needs to be done, and roughly how much it would cost at a local bike shop.

Why can't you fix my bike for me?

We don't want to take business away from any of the fantastic bike shops and repair services in the local area. Plus, there is far too much demand for free bike repairs for us to cater for, and there is so much value in learning how to fix your own bike!

Do you have the correct tools/spare parts to fix my problem?

We don't stock every possible tool/part - please email adrian@capitalofcycling.org before the session with a brief description of the problem and we'll be able to let you know.

Where can I learn to fix my bike?

If you're brave enough to get stuck in and figure things out on your own, then come on down! If things go wrong, our mechanic will at least try to make sure you can ride your bike home again. We also run structured maintenance lessons - see our Eventbrite page for details of these.

Halfords told me I need [X] to fix my bike!

If Halfords told me it was raining, I'd go outside and check.
