In this workshop you will learn how to upcycle an old pair of shoes or sandals using just paper and glue! We all have shoes we don't wear any more - maybe we are bored with them, the colour isn't right, or we like them so much that they are one of our "default" pairs and now the leather looks worn out. This is your chance to give them a new lease of life. I will teach you the wonderful technique of decoupage on shoes, which you can then use at home to upcycle other pairs. Once you've learned it, all you need is time, patience, and a few very affordable materials and tools - some of which you may already have. I will give you a handout to remind you the basic steps of the technique, and suggest where you can purchase materials and tools.
During the workshop, you will be able to select papers my own collection to transform a pair of shoes into your unique creation through decoupage. I will guide you through the design process and show you all the tricks of applying very thin paper to a flexible surface. All you need is an old pair of shoes or sandals made from leather or plastic (please note that suede or fabric are not suitable), with as little embelishment as possible. If in doubt, bring more than one option and we'll choose the best one once you get here. The workshop will allow you to complete a pair of shoes - if you'd like to work on boots it's likely you will have to finish them at home (I will give you the necessary materials).
You will be able to wear you decoupaged shoes outdoors as we seal them with a special varnish, although if you're caught in the pouring rain they may be damaged. You would have to treat them in the same way as you would suede or fabric shoes - I check the forecast first whenever I want to wear either of those! They should last you a couple of years in good condition - and of course after that, you can apply the same treatment again.
All materials plus tea and coffee are included in the cost of the workshop.
Please note that bookings are non-refundable but you can transfer your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend - just email me their contact details.
